Panchakarma Alt Emporda - A purification that goes to the root
Panchakarma (पञ्चकर्म) literally means "five actions". It is the classical therapeutic process of Āyurveda, aimed at eliminating accumulated toxins (ama), restoring the balance of the doshas and supporting the body's natural processes of regeneration. It is not a massage or a one-off treatment.
In contemporary Āyurvedic practice, Panchakarma combines specific Āyurvedic sessions, dietary guidance and lifestyle adjustments for a gradual and safe purification. At Tejas Āyurveda, each programme is designed individually after an initial Āyurvedic consultation.
Depending on your individual assessment, a Panchakarma programme may include: Abhyanga (warm oil massage following the classical Āyurvedic technique), Udvartana (massage with herbal powders that stimulates circulation), Shirodhara (a continuous stream of warm oil over the forehead, deeply calming for the nervous system), Nasyam (nasal application of medicated oil, traditionally associated with balancing Vata and Kapha in the head and neck, supporting mental clarity and a sense of calm), Karna Purana (warm oil applied to the ears, associated with balancing Vata and relaxation) and Pindasveda (massage with warm herbal poultices, nourishing for muscles and joints).
The exact combination always depends on your individual assessment.
When is Panchakarma recommended?
Panchakarma may be indicated when the body needs purification or rebalancing. These are the most common situations in which it is considered:
Slow digestion
Heaviness, accumulation, sluggish metabolism — aggravated Kapha.
Chronic stress
Nervous exhaustion, difficulty resting, anxiety.
Nervous system
Irregularity, sensitivity, instability — aggravated Vata.
Acidity and skin
Chronic acidity, inflammation, hair loss — aggravated Pitta.
Āyurvedic detox
Build-up of toxins, persistent tiredness, loss of vitality.
Neck tension
Contracture, stiffness, Vata aggravated by accumulated stress.
Jaw tension
Chronic tension in the jaw, night-time teeth grinding, excess Vata.
Each programme is adapted to your individual constitution (prakriti) and current state after a complete Āyurvedic assessment.
Classical Panchakarma, contemporary application
Traditional Panchakarma was developed in a very different context to contemporary Europe.
At Tejas Āyurveda we apply the classical principles and therapies, adapting the protocol to each person's individual constitution, health history and real capacity for integration.
Every programme begins with a mandatory Prakriti consultation — without it, it is not possible to design an appropriate personalised Āyurvedic plan.
Panchakarma is not a generic programme: it is a sequence of therapies built specifically for you.
How does a Panchakarma programme work?
The process follows a progressive structure. Although every programme is unique, the usual journey includes the following stages:
1 — Initial Āyurvedic consultation. Assessment of your dosha, the state of agni and the accumulation of ama. The goals of the programme are defined and your personalised Āyurvedic plan is designed.
2 — Preparation (purvakarma). A preparatory phase with externally applied medicated oils and specific guidelines that prepare the body for the main therapies, so the process is gradual and comfortable.
3 — Main therapies. The therapies indicated for your constitution: Abhyanga, Udvartana, Shirodhara, Nasyam, Karna Purana or other classical Āyurvedic procedures.
4 — Dietary and lifestyle guidance. Specific dietary guidelines for each phase of the programme, complemented by daily routine recommendations (dinacharya).
5 — Programme close. In the last session we review how you have responded to the programme, and you receive dietary and routine guidelines for the following weeks.

Panchakarma at Tejas Āyurveda: time and depth
Panchakarma is a programme over several days, not a single session. It combines different Āyurvedic therapies — Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Nasyam, among others — spread across a process, with guidelines to continue at home once it ends.
Tejas Āyurveda programmes are designed and led by Narayan Yadav, graduate in Āyurveda (BASM), with more than a decade of practice in Europe.
Each session respects the duration the classical protocol requires:
Abhyanga: 60 to 90 minutes
Nasyam: 90 minutes
Shirodhara: 75 minutes to 2 hours
We work with fewer sessions, giving each one the time and depth it needs. Results are not rushed — they are respected.
When the programme ends, you take home dietary and lifestyle guidelines for the following weeks.
Brief questions about those guidelines can be answered by email or WhatsApp; a more complete follow-up requires a new Āyurvedic consultation, from one month after the programme.
Frequently asked questions about Panchakarma
The first step is always the consultation
Every Panchakarma programme at Tejas Āyurveda begins with an individual Prakriti consultation (60 min · €68). It is essential to determine which therapies suit your constitution, in what order to apply them and what preparation is needed.
No programme can begin without a prior consultation.
Consultations are held in English, Spanish or Hindi.
Important: this is not a residential retreat.
The programme consists of daily therapy sessions at our space in the Alt Empordà — you travel to your session each day; accommodation is not included.
If you are looking for an immersive experience with a stay, this programme focuses on therapeutic depth rather than a retreat format.
